MAHA FARMERS PRODUCER COMPANY LIMITED

MAHA-FPC is a state Level Farmer Producer Company which is consortium of farmer producer companies registered under the Company Act 1956, established in the year 2014 by the farmer producer companies in the state of Maharashtra. It is only multi-commodity growers, for profit making association registered under the Company Act. The MAHA FPC working directly with Farmer producer companies to help mitigate the difficulty of farmers through Institutional Development services, capacity building services, system and process integration, technical training dissemination, financial intermediation, Market linkage development, policy advocacy and facilitating social security and economic development.

Farmer Producer Company movement in India has its roots in the amendment in the Company Act in 2002 by allowing producers to register their organization under the Company Act. After a decade, Farmer Producer Company as an institution for the agribusiness were taken up by the farmers with the support from Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operation of Government of India and World Bank funded projects across India. Maharashtra is leading state in the organizing small and marginal farmers through farmer producer companies. Therefore Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC), an autonomous organization of Ministry of Agriculture and farmer’s welfare has taken national level initiative to form State Level Farmer Producer Company as a federal structure of Farmer Producer Companies in the state.

Maharashtra Farmer Producer companies were first in the country to respond positively and enthusiastically to make a state level consortium of FPC’s. On the occasion of Training cum Workshop organized by MANAGE, Hyderabad and Maharashtra State SFAC, Pune on “Development and Sustainability of Producers organizations” at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri on 26/03/2016 wherein majority of FPC’s across the state were participated, the idea of formation of State Level farmer Producer Organization was supported by all FPC’s and promoters were selected unanimously. This led to incorporation of MAHA Farmers Producer Company Limited on 3rd Sept 2014 under Register of Companies, Pune.
